Experimental: Eye Candy (EC-a1) (Updated)

Here is something to play with over the holidays: You will find a Windlight based version in the experimental folder. I'm running out of letters for the Bleeding Edge series and I figured Windlight would be a good point to start a new one, so these will be tagged Eye Candy (or EC).

It's the first one I made, so there may be some rough spots (alas, it's a beta based on a First-Look, fasten your seatbelts please), but it did run okay on a short journey. If you are running Windlight 1.18.6.75762 (direct download link) anyway, just drop it into the Linden Windlight folder and let me know what you find.

Note: If you are new to Nicholaz Editions, this one is probably not for you. Start with Bleeding Edge V (based on the current official viewer) instead and follow the instructions there.

If you want to do compiles, the source is also there (source snapshot should be 100% in sync with the .patch files). If you have a build to share, post a comment and if you find platform quirks in the source, also let me know.

Update: Oops, that one was short lived :-). It crashed on the History button ... EC-a1 now should fix that. Sorry!

I am so not going to complain that you are not respecting your own announcements :). Not when your edition actually will make me run Windlight. Nic, you're wonderful. Thanks so much.

Wow, that's a nice Christmas present from someone who said he didn't have time to do it! ;)
I'll let you know how it's working for me-and seriously, I hope you don't feel forced to work on SL if you actually need to spend more time with RL projects!

I don't know if I'm just destined to hit this bug, but it dumped me out on chat history again.

LOL :-)

Well, I thought I would help my friend with their house, but they are getting along on a bit slower than planned. So I had a bit of time and Windlight went a bit quicker than planned. Had it running under an hour and thought I'd just share the results (and it's a good excuse to put off buying Xmas presents :-)).

I'm so excited I forgot : merry Chistmas and a happy New Year to you, Nic.

dang, history reapeats itself (bad pun intended). Crash on history button, will fix it in a moment.

Ok, so it's EC-a1 now with history not crashing ...

Nic, it's amazing... as usual, much better than the "real" thing... ;)

Link to the correct viewer?

yeah, the new windlight is a bummer - it has better presets but sadly did make one change that makes new presets incompatible with old versions (added some constant factors), so we can't just copy over the new presets.

Barney said...

oh, and I can't compile it - GL/gl.h is missing, too. seems like it's a really borked source drop again :/

Barney said...

Ah, looks like something is mightily borked in that project file - doesn't find some system includes that are actually there. Weird.

Nicholaz. The latest linden windlight removed the UUID when using ctrl+alt+shift+t with view admins options on. This is annoying, and I actually used that for several legitimate things.

Do you plan to keep this functionality in your viewer ?

Barney: The windows build seems fine, maybe another mess up of the Xcode projects?

All: I'm already compiling a new one based on their 76116, stay tuned.

Warkirby: I currently don't have plans to reverse this, because I don't want to draw the wrath of builders who think this is doing anything to protect them (and there seem to be quite many of them, judging from the discussions so far). Other than that, I haven't seen any good reasons to keep the feature, but maybe you can provide an example.

Nicholaz, I've used it for several things.

1. To recover a texture of mine from a prim surface, after it was eaten by the asset server

2. To catch a scammer, by grabbing the texture off his armor, and comparing it to a game.

3. To grab known freebie textures I find around.

Can't get it to work. I put it in my Windlight folder, make the short cut, and every single time it crashes before even bringing up a start-up screen :-(

Nicholaz "The Mad Patcher" Beresford said...

WarKirby: Can't those things be easier done via glintercept?

AutumnFox: please try the ectest.zip version from http://www.blueflash.cc/users/nicholaz/~nonpublic/ectest.zip
(put it on top of the ec-a1).
