Over the last few days, many avatars have been saved from embarrasing and potentially painful situations (the list of attachments mentioned in comments and IMs include shoes, horns, dreadlocks and more items which do not belong there :-)).
There were no reports of adverse effects, so I'm calling it a good release. It is based on the current official Linden version and you can see the glorious details (compared to the previous BE-u or compared to Linden 1.18.5.3) in the change log.
This release also has the optimizer turned on, so it may (or may not) run a bit faster, depending on your machine.
Source code is also on the server. Barney's Mac version is practically identical to this version (the only substantial change I made here is for Windows only anyway), so if you are looking for a Mac OS X build, click here. RobinC made what he calls half a Nicholaz version (including fixes but no GUI changes), which is also available under that link. If you want to do builds based on BE-v, post them here in the comments and I'll let people know.
So, here goes the usual blurp:
Disclaimer: This viewer is unofficial and although I am doing my best to make it better than the release viewer, it may contain extra bugs and you will have to trust me that there is no malicious code in it. Please also understand that it runs on the main grid with your real Second Life account and inventory. Also read the disclaimer/header in the Install.txt in my archive.
First make sure you have the now official Linden 1.18.5.3 (download link) installed.
Then download nicholaz-BE-v.zip from my server and while the download runs, have a look at the installation instructions and the change log!
After the download completes, follow the instructions and make sure they go into the right folder!
If something goes wrong with this version, go to the previous-versions folder. BE-s will still runs nicely and rock solid, but is based on Linden 1.18.3.5 (download link) (please note that the older fallback BE-s is based on Linden viewer 1.18.3.5, not 5.3).
PS: There is an in-world group for announcements of my releases: Search, Groups, "Nicholaz"

I can't believe I'm the first to comment... Great version, and thanks for the command line parameters :-)
Hi Nicholaz,
I wish you a fantastic 2008.
Question: I am getting confused. What would now be the best Nicholaz viewer for someone like me who does not care for voice, windlight and other gadgets and only wants the most stable version with the "old" (friends button still excists) interface?
Thank you again for your super great work.
Greetz,
Sylvia Sonoda
sylvia: This version should be fine then. It is the most stable, it does have the old interface. It does also have voice, but simply turn it off.
Hi, looks like that it doesn't work perfectly with the new nvidia driver 169.21. The Avatar vertex program and shaders seem to not work :(.
But the sore a.. problem is really fixed, nice work ;) If you need a terrain file for your sim, ask me .
Ok two big things on Bleeding Edge BE-V.... when you own land you try to go to the land objects menu and highlight objects of individual owners and it doesn't work. The second is you can't go into pics in your profile and successfully delete pics. When I add they do show up be deletions remain. For both of these purposes I use the default client but opt for the BE-V for everything else.

FWIW, I believe this is a nVidia driver problem. I've seen the same problem using the official viewer, and there's some postings on the nVidia developers' boards about it. Rolling back to the previous (major) release fixed the problem for me.
Dear Nicholaz, with all do respect - I admire what you do for the SL community - I do not grasp this.
Can you explain in human language, how is, that a client side bug - what I assume it is in the Linden's official client - can cause this to happen to avatars. If I have my shoe, hair and pussy up my ass - and probably my ear too, but I did not see that one - I am not the only one that notices this. Also the avatars standing around me see this? So how can a bug in my client, - which mainly serves rendering purposes? - influence what they see?

vint: which do you mean? the asstachments? they were a client side problem, the client not handling an odd packet order (or recovering from missing packets) correctly.
There may be cases where the server got confused, so everybody is seeing them (being sent the same erroneous data), but those I saw could be fixed by making the client more robust in that area.
You could also have problems with server packet loss, showing up at multiple clients in the same way ...
