More on Version 1.19

I had a look at the 1.19 version this week, but the changes will take more time than expected, which is more time than I want to spend at the moment. So I'm sorry to say, but for now there won't be an 1.19 from me. Hopefully 1.18.5.3 plus BE-v will still work for a while, but it may be prudent to look for alternatives.

But Boy Lane has 1.19 versions of his viewer (based on Henri's Cool Viewer, see the comments to the posts here).

Boy Lane says: "The Windows version of the Cool Viewer in 1.19.0.79627 is finally working without crashing...up on my blog. With the old userinterface of course and RestrainedLife 1.10.2. Have fun! Boy (which is a girl *smile*)." and (s)he also posted later: "Linux and Windows Cool Viewers updated to 1.19.0.79890: (link) (link)"

Nicholaz,

I've been running your final Old School release quite happily for a while.

I recently upgraded (reluctantly!) to the most recent version of your Bleeding Edge viewer.

Since doing so, I am plagued with "Red Map" errors (I have never seen these error messages before), and I am frozen and crashed.

Is there something I need tweak in settings? Is this a known problem? Is it a Bleeding Edge problem or a Linden problem?

I'm considering reverting back to Old School, but that is a very limited and short term solution at this point.

Thanks for any help you or anyone else can offer.

I have 2 issues with the Cool Viewer... it doesnt allow | in Object description and crashes on uploading a jpg file.

Besides that it is running well...

I'm still on 1.18 I'm looking for someone who is willing to help me track down where to add a very specific feature in the search window, which I think can be done without too much trouble.

The pipe symbol '|' no longer being accepted in an objects description is a Linden-Thing and enforced server sided, so it will be that way with any viewer you use.

See this blog post for more information:

I've been using your BE-V installed over 1.18.5.3 for quite awhile. Just tried out the new "dazzle" client to see what it is like. Visually, I'm not particularly impressed. However, one of my long-standing problems went away: the hesitancy my AV experiences when just walking along, and turning. Turns always seemed to have a hesitancy every 90-degrees. Under "dazzle", the hesitnacy is gone. I have also tried the "Cool Viewer", but the hesitnacy is still present. As a rule, my draw distance is set for 255 meters, and I never use Windlight. So, one request for the future would be to track down the hesitancy problem.

Nicholaz,

I hope when you have time to turn your attention to relatively trivial matters that you'll hack Dazzle down to a Dim Glow. The neon blue started hurting my eyes within minutes.

(They said something about 'skins', but who knows how long that'll take.)

P.S. Your redmap warnings are still the best. :D

A quick question for you, Nicholaz. Would it be possible to convince you to add the RestrainedLife features to your client? I tried Cool Viewer, but there were various things I did NOT like about it that Boy doesn't want to change to as you have it, the only local chat text entry box being the Chat button, as well as some other UI differences.
I absolutly LOVE your client, primarily because of how you have the interface set up.
If required, I could possibly put money on the line, as for how much I'd have to hash out with you, preferably after you figure out how much trouble it would be for you.

Oh the latest Linden clients are reloading the av textures that much again... what a pain.

I will stay on the Nicholaz viewer as long as I can basicly because of the user interface. I really hate what they (Linden) did to it :)
But then again I am a person that would go back to windows 3.11 too if I could. So maybe not that representive for the avarage :)

Regarding "Restrained Life"...

Not Everyone Wants To Use That!
(Not everyone is into BDSM...)

(If you roll those into your client PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE include a way to shut off that portion of it, thank you!)

Regarding Anonymous's comment:

RestrainedLife actually has to be activated via the debug window, so it's not even active initially.
So nothing to worry about, for those that don't want that portion, heh.

I second Cyberwolf there, can you be persuaded with money? I really don't want to use the Cool Viewer, for me it's pretty uncool.

Ironically, I have the "Cool SL" signs in my shop (Boy is a very dear friend) and yet I'm PERSONALLY still running
---------------------
Second Life (Nicholaz Edition) 1.18.5 (3) Dec 15 2007 14:21:08 (SecondLife Nicholaz 'BleedingEdge' Edition) BE-v
---------------------

Cool SL has a lot of nifty features, but their implementation of the "old chat windows" is a little different from Nicholaz, and it's a bit of work to adapt. Still, it's a LOT better than the OFFICIAL release. But that *IS* an option. The nice thing is that the RestrainedLife code it totally optional with a single debug switch (and as I recall, is off by default).

So, while it's NOT Nicholaz, it's still a pretty good alternative to "Linden Labs". (and if you wanna play with RLV code, then you're just a relog away from that, and don't need a separate viewer. (god for people like me who develop adult devices.

I will miss the Nicholaz viewer, and I hope someday that there will be another one. But I also know that I need to "keep up" with the SL that my customers are using as well. (still dreading windlight).

Nicholas.. THANK YOU for all you've given us.. and for the months of SL usage I might not have had without your viewer!

Boy Lane's 1.19 build of Cool Viewer is only for Windlight though, which I do not use
