Experimental EC-xf2

I have a little update to Sunday's experimental viewer.
  • fixed collision of settings between Nicholaz EyeCandy and BleedingEdge viewers (manually copy user_settings\settings_nicholaz.xml to user_settings\settings_nicholaz_EC.xml if you like to import the older ones)
  • fixed a bug in the texture-hiccups patch
  • VWR-4371 (ambient sound volume) by Aimee Trescothick
  • (full list)
As far as I can tell, this should be a very nice viewer. I plan to turn it into EC-f without other changes after a few days (probably next Sunday), but for now I'd call it true release-candidate status.

If you want to give it a try, point your browser to the experimental folder on my server, follow the usual steps and post observations, problems, results as comments to this blog post.

Everybody who is interested in stable and tested versions instead, please continue here.

Enjoy ...

Nick

PS: As a side note, I'm also planning an update of the BleedingEdge viewer (1.18.5.3). Nothing dramatic, just a tweak to the settings and one or two patches. I personally really prefer the BE viewer for it's performance and even visually so I'll give it a little extra love.

Looks great, but my color picker still wont save colors, the window drags instead. Is there a workaround for this?

Alexandra Rucker said...

The workaround is "use default system color picker"

Tried that, it forgot what colors i had saved after i logged out =(

The only things that I've run into is not being able to fully resize the communicate window in EC-fX2. It only resizes to 11 lines, whereas in the EC-e and the BE viewers it could be resized smaller.

And the sort in inventory isn't working.

Not biggies, just annoying.

I think I saw a patch somewhere for the color picker. How exactly do I reproduce this problem (i.e. clear repro step to see it myself)?

Anyone else got the problems like tomasg? (I'll try myself later)

is that the color issue?

https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-5366

Alexandra Rucker said...

That would be the issue, yes. :) Looks like it already has a patch somewhere.

Nicholaz "The Mad Patcher" Beresford said...

Thanks Alexandra, the patch looks pretty straightforward ...

The inventory sort issue disappeared on it's own, may have just been an SL glitch, which leaves the communication window resize issue.

I usually separate the chat window from the IM window if that helps. The chat window resizes OK, it's the IM window that only resizes to 11 lines of type.

tomasg: can you please try to undock the contacts window from there (friends/groups). I tried it here and that seems to be the one which is in the way.

tomasg said...

Thank you, Nicholaz, you were right. The contacts window is the problem. After undocking it I was able to resize the IM window same as in the the BE and EC-e viewers.

Nicholaz, those of us with nVidia cards have trouble with 1.19.4 based viewers. The RC series has been pursuing bugs with handling those cards, and I can only now get stable performance with the RC viewers.

Hope this will roll into your viewer sometime soon!

Martin: There's an early dazzle based viewer now, see today's blog post.

DearNicholaz, since EC-v I'm having hard times to uncompress your zip files, and I can't manage to decompress at all latest EC-x... I am on win vista (both x64 & x86) and made various tries with winzip and jzip without success. I wonder what you used to compress those files. I am an heavy nicholaz-versions user, I miss your latest release :(

eidur: some providers seem to have problems downloading from our server (or the server has problems with some providers). The files are regular ZIP files and should unpack right away, but please ask a friend who's on a different internet provide if he can download and send the file to you.

thank you Nic, will try this way!
(and will start another download now that I'm not using my home ISP! ;))
