Grab a Band Aid and Snow Goggles

More arrivals in the ~experimental download folder.

Bleeding Edge
One is a new BE-xw build. It should be fairly solid, it is just tagged experimental to be sure and it will eventually become version BE-w.

After juggling versions for some time now, this is still my absolute favorite. It is still high in demand (total of almost 9000 downloads now), balanced visuals because most content seems still to be build for the old rendering engine and probably because I'm a luddite who prefers the tried and trusted :-).

You will find the download here, together with change log and installation instructions. If something goes wrong (pretty unlikely), please go back to BE-v.

Snow Blind
This is a new build and with that name I think you will be able to guess what it is. It is very early, very experimental and very low priority for me (I just did it because I had some spare time and I'm just sharing it because it might help someone). I just put in what went in easily (most of the GUI reversals are dead, but release-key, IM-filter, memory bubble fix, etc. are there). It will be better than the official RC6, but understand that it is merely a half hearted attempt in Nicholazification and besides, the original source distribution does seem to have stale files too.

Feel free to post your findings here, but don't hold your breath for fixes. If you're adventurous grab your Ray Bans or some snow goggles and download it here (also see install notes and change log).

thank you very much tried the new BE and it looks great so far although i was hoping that the New IM window will be switched with the friends and groups one like in the latest EC and also iam having some trouble with the near me chat colors shouldnt the IM and the chat log in it be fading gray color? or is there somthing i changed without knowing.

Am I correct in assuming that Bleeding Edge does not incorporate WindLight, whereas EyeCandy does incorporate Windlight? I loved the old Bleeding Edge, but switched to Eye Candy when WindLight became part of the regular Linden release.

sawat: In BE there is only the New IM-Tab in the IM Tabs. It's the old GUI (with pre voice and pre chatterbox). You can undock "Near Me" from there, so "New IM" will be alone there, but it can't be undocked.

I'll have to check the colors, there are color settings in Preferences, Communication (or Chat or something) though.

Princess Ivory: Yes, BE is non-WindLight, here is what the four series are:

Old-School: Pre-Voice (1.18.0.6)
Bleeding-Edge: Voice, pre-windlight with pre-voice user interface (no chatterbox, old friends window) (1.18.5.3)
Eye-Candy: Windlight with partially reversed chatterbox. (1.19.1.4)
Snow-Blind: Dazzle (gray skin) with more or less standard Linden user interface (1.20.RC.6)

I don't know how many other people feel the same way, but honestly? I'd rather see work go into EC than into SnowBlind - Dazzle is just a new set of bugs on a shiny (overly bright) interface, I'd rather see more bugs squished in EyeCandy/Windlight version instead. :)

Though I'm *definitely* looking forward to a BE update, since that's my building default. :)

You are an absolute lifesaver Nicholaz!!!
Without the BE clients, I would not be able to use SL any more.
At least not until LL decide to actually do anything on JIRA issue VWR-3258 (which we all know will happen when hell freezes over).
I just keep hoping that they don't eventually lock out the 1.18 versions.

On the new version, so far no issues at all. Seems to run very smoothly for me.

cheers
Ama

Alex: I don't plan to put much work into Snow-Blind/Dazzle. It was easy to build once I made the mental switch from trying to "put in what I have" to "put in what goes in", and it's really just an experiment so far, but it gives people one more choice.

In fact I'm trying to get back to RL business again, it's just that I got hooked into that building stuff again, but that won't last anyway, so I hope to have good and lasting versions out there when I go back.

Ama: Well, don't hold your breath at least. :-) One thing I have to give the Lindens credit for is that they allow the old versions still to run. As long as there are alternatives out there, not being able to run Windlight isn't such a terrible loss IMHO.

foe: I have to give some credit to comment 61 on the linden blog, that's where I got the idea :-)

thank heavens for more work on BE!! by far my favorite (and most stable) viewer...i don't wanna get into the list of things that go wrong in 1.19.x, it very clearly hates my machine.
hope the gui-reversal happens to snow blind sometime; heaven knows the lindens won't hesitate to shove it on us before it's fully tested. can see why you wouldn't bother patching up a RC that'll be obsolete in a week though.

viva 18.5!

SB-X2a works at least as well as the official RC 1.20(6). However, I do get sudden crashes with it, as well as delayed teleports or freeze-type crashes on teleports. There seem to be less problems with slowly sinking, rising, or turning avatars or camera positions.

Also, the Advanced menu does not persist between sessions in SB-X2a.

The first time I ran it, it did not read my prior preferences, and I had to set them up from scratch.
